Apply to the lpl board

The Application Process

One of the most impactful ways you can make a difference for the Lafayette Public Library is to apply to be a member of the Board of Control. The board desperately needs volunteers willing to put our library FIRST above partisan politics or political agendas. Board members (trustees) should be familiar with the Louisiana State Library’s Orientation Manual for Louisiana Library Directors and Trustees as well as take advantage of the resources available at United for Libraries.

Board seats become available when a board member 1) Resigns, 2) Is removed by the Parish Council, or 3) Their term is up. Unless the vacancy is due to a resignation or removal, the Parish Council generally opens up applications 60 days prior to the anticipated vacancy, and the period to apply is usually 2-3 weeks. We will post information about any vacancies here.

Applicants are REQUIRED to submit their resumé to the council in order to apply. It is important to note that resumés submitted are public record. However, prior to the meeting when the appointment will be made, we highly recommend that candidates reach out via phone or email to each councilman to introduce themselves and speak with them about why they want to be on the board. We also recommend that each candidate come to the parish council meeting when the appointment will be made and speak publicly on their own behalf.

We anticipate several board vacancies in 2025. As those vacancies are announced, we will post information about when and where to send your resumé.
