Post Meeting Analysis:
April’s meeting was one of the shortest and controversy-free board meetings in recent memory. It was over in less than 30 minutes, and saw only two votes: to approve last month’s minutes and to approve book discards. Everyone, it’s safe to say, was glad to get home a little earlier than usual.
One item of note, however, was the number of absent board members this month, including Robert Judge, Allan Moore, and Erasto Padron. Padron’s absences, in fact, seem to be becoming a habit.
AWOL?
One can’t help but notice that Erasto Padron has been absent from the majority of meetings recently. According to library records, Padron has missed five of the last six meetings: October & November, 2024 (no meeting in December), plus January, March, and April, 2025.
Per the Board of Control Bylaws, Article 2, Section 4: Any Board Member who misses four (4) Board meetings in any twelve (12) month period shall be deemed to have resigned from the Board and shall be automatically deemed removed from the Board. In that instance, the President of the Board shall promptly notify the Clerk of the Council of the resignation. The Parish Council shall appoint a replacement member to fill the unexpired term of the resigned Board Member.
This Section makes no exceptions for personal or professional obligations, nor states any formalities that must take place before a member’s removal.
We are currently awaiting information on Mr. Padron’s absences, and whether the board and/or the Parish Council intends to announce his resignation.

NE Library News
Of course the big news this month was the announcement from Mayor-President Monique Boulet about the new Northeast Library. Following her appearance at March’s LBOC meeting, where she and city-parish attorney Pat Ottinger told the board that her office would be taking control of the project, Boulet held a press conference announcing that not only has Northeast been put on the fast track, but that the location for the new library has moved to the former Holy Rosary Institute on Carmel Drive, which was the original site choice of many in the community back in 2022. The news was met with relief and joy by residents, community members, and advocates who have been fighting for this library for years despite seemingly unending attempts to delay and derail it by the board.
