Pre-Meeting Analysis

Very quiet agenda this month after the drama of the First Amendment lawsuit settlement earlier in the summer. Nothing much to report other than accepting the minutes from those previous meetings.

HOWEVER, we do have a new feature, thanks to the lawsuit! Starting this month, the LBOC will have a new pre-meeting script, removing all speaker restrictions other than the standard 3-minute time limit. There will also be a new binder available to the public with information about Louisiana’s Open Meetings laws – a must have item considering how many times the board has broken them.

Parish Council – Board Appointments

The big news this month is that the Parish Council has not one but TWO appointments to the board of control coming up at their meeting on August 5. One of those up is the seat currently occupied by Rena Bradley, who is applying for reappointment; the other is currently held by Robert Judge, who has indicated that he does not intend to reapply. You can find the resumes of those applying for the open seats here and here

In addition, though the full agenda has not yet been released, a recent story in The Acadiana Advocate indicated that the Northeast Library will also be discussed – specifically, a request by Mayor-President Monique Boulet to enter into lease negotiations with the Holy Rosary Development Corp. Hopefully we will see preliminary approval of that item, which would then be voted on for final approval at the council’s August 19.
