An important parish council meeting for the library on Tuesday, Dec 2nd at 4:30pm. In addition to a budget allocation to pay for repairs to the elevators at the Main Library, the council will be voting to accept the terms of the lease agreement & related documents for the new Northeast library. If you’ll remember, earlier this year Mayor-President Monique Boulet essentially took the project out of the hands of the library board of control after years of unnecessary delays. Working with community leaders and stakeholders, the Boulet administration re-entered into negotiations with the Holy Rosary Development Corp to site the library at the community’s original first choice: the former Holy Rosary Institute, slated for redevelopment as a community resource hub and historic site.

We would love for members of the public to either come to the meeting or write to their councilmember, urging them to vote yes to move the project forward.

Equally important is the other big item on the council’s agenda – appointing a new member to the library board of control. This is the appointment to replace outgoing member Erasto Padron; the vote was originally slated for October, but in an unprecedented move the council voted to re-open applications when only two had been received by the original deadline. The move to defer the appointment was made by council member Bryan Tabor, pictured below.

This time around the council has received nearly a dozen resumés, including at least one on Michael Lunsford’s wish list, so we are urging as many people as possible to either write, call, or attend the meeting and urge the council to appoint non-political members. You can also sign our petition, though we won’t be submitting it to council on Tuesday, so please write, call, or attend as well.
